Felsted Aid for Deprived Children
This is the new web site for Felsted Aid for Deprived Children. It is under development, so if corrections are discovered, please contact us. Not all links work, but this will be corrected in the next few weeks.
This charity supports the children in homes and hospitals in the village of Chernihiv (Chernigov) in the Ukraine, near the nuclear power station of Chernobyl.
Felsted Aid for Deprived Children was formed by Alan Hilliar and Pauline Craven to help child victims from the Chernobyl disaster.
You may remember the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 when the nuclear reactor exploded and 190 tonnes of radioactive graphite and uranium spewed into the air directly affecting 7,000,000 people. 150,000 died immediately and 500,000 were disabled.
Today, 20 years on, thousands of children are still affected with cancers, tumours, leukaemia, cerebral palsy, neurological problems and many hereditary diseases.
A rehabilitation centre called the Revival Centre was established in 1996, with the help of the British people. It has taken six years to develop and equip, and has treated over 3,000 children. It is now a centre of excellence for the whole of the Ukraine.
FELSTED AID FOR DEPRIVED CHILDREN continues to support this project.
HOW DO WE HELP? We give the Centre both financial and humanitarian aid.
HOW DO WE GET IT THERE? Simple – we take it. We, and others, take time off work, give up our holidays and drive in convoy to take it directly to the Centre. Any money donated is taken directly to the Centre’s bank and a receipt given.
The children receive a complex treatment of medical, psychological, paediatric and social help in the centre.
The course of treatment is for 21 days and costs £65.00. This includes their lunch. Felsted Aid for Deprived Children is presently looking for funding for 165 children.
WHAT DO WE NEED? Donations for diesel and ferry crossings. Sanitary wear, toiletries, disposable nappies, toilet rolls, medical aid in the form of syringes, bandages, cotton wool, disinfectant. We also need normal everyday items such as washing powder, toothpaste, toothbrushes and soap.
